Pinpointer to use with CTX 3030 17" coil

Since I started using my CTX 3030 with the 17" coil, I've covered a lot more ground and found deeper civil war relics. The only downside with the big coil is that it's harder to pinpoint and especially harder to locate a deep target that has been removed from the hole in the loose dirt. A 12 to 14 inch hole produces a lot of dirt outside the hole! About 2 weeks ago, I started looking for a pinpointer to solve this problem. Don't bother about checking ebay--used stuff goes for not much less than new. Save some time & call Bart Davis at Big Boy Hobbies for a Garrett Propointer. I just ordered 2 for my buddy and myself! Bart will give you a good deal!

I have to agree with Del, I own both the TRX and the Propointer, the TRX runs circles around the Propointer..... IMHO.

I don't know if anyone has bought one yet, but one of our sponsors (Gold Digger Metal detectors) just started selling a new pinpointer that works very well at a very affordable price as well. I currently own the Garrett but will be adding one soon.

The perfect PP would be the depth of the TRX and the detection field of the Propointer. I use both when hunting deep sites and only the Propointer on the rest. At the deep sites I use the TRX initially but switch to the ProPointer once within range or out of the hole. Much faster finding the target. I've had times when I have the coin out of the hole and in the dirt and takes quite a bit of hunting to pinpoint the coin in the loose dirt. The PP finds it quickly.

I have the Whites TRX and the Garrett Propointer. When I find a target I use the Whites set at 4 for sensitivity to pinpoint and it will zero in on a target at 4-6" deep. As I get closer I switch to the Garrett. I find I have cut my recovery time by a lot and I have much smaller plugs.

I must be missing something because I don't see why you guys think you have to carry/lug two hand held pinpointers around.-----Just locate the target with the TRX on max or near max sensitivity, then "ratchet" (de-sensitive) it down to zero in on the target.---Works great doing that for me & it does it quickly.

Since I started using the TRX I forgot about Minelab and Garrett. Some people wish for the TRX to have the ability to detect the entire shaft instead of the tip. Not me. I spent a bunch of wasted time digging deeper only to have the target be a shallow on the side of the hole target. The TRX is really a nice piece of equipment. And no falsing when I push on it. I give a big thumbs up to Whites.
