Pinpointer question.

Mick in Dubbo

New member
Hi all.
I was wondering if someone could tell me how far away from a coin you need to be, for an electronic pinpointer to pick it up?
thanks.
Mick Evans.

Many hand held pin pointers you see will get a coin around 1 inch, some maybe a little more and some less. Uniprobe makes a very nice one that you can get as a pocket one or their main one that is made into the nice set of headphones. Now the Uniprobe will have a good 3 or more inches of depth, but these are a bit more expensive too than your hand held ones. Another great probe is the Sun Ray in line probes that are made for your detector, but Sun Ray don't make them for all detectors yet like the new X-Terra. These fit on the detector and act like a 1 inch coil that you turn on when you need it with a toggle switch that will disconnect the main coil and transfer everything to the Pinpointing probe. These too have 3 or more inches of depth and work the best and the easiest to use.

Well worth the $179, and a steal whenever you can find a used one. Depth 3-4 inches, works just like a mini-coil. The Uniprobes are overpriced, but if there's not a SunRay for your machine, it's the second best choice. Anything else in handhelds I've tried is a waste of time... 1" detection depth at best.

Thanks Rick and Nick.Did a fair bit of looking last night.Only really found info on the Sunrays. They look like they will make a great asset to the armoury. Given the huge popularity of the X-Terra's, I think it will only be a matter of time till Sunray make one for it.(big PLEASE Sunray,if you could.)
