Pinpoint with 4"sniper coil????

:confused:Do we have to pinpoint and press again for detune with this small " Sniper coil??? Thank you...Ps: having lots of fun:crazy: with my ace 250 very good detector:detecting: for a newbie :rage:like me:heh::wave:...

Yep, pretty much. The operation is basically the same,
except that the "X" is in the middle of the coil, instead
of at the front. You don't pull back until the tone quits
like the two bigger coils. Just pinpoint for max tone,
and the X in the center of the coil marks the spot.
You don't have to detune quite as often, as the coil is
smaller and less likely to pick up multiple targets like
the bigger coils.

:help:I have seen the term "detune" used frequently, but there is nothing about it in the Ace 250 manual, I don't think:confused:

Is this where you press the power button for five seconds, then a "beep-beep"?..

You get the hit in discrimination mode, move the coil to the right and not above the target..Click the pinpoint button sveral times , keep it pressed on and go over the target and you will find it has gotten smaller and easier to pinpoint. Mentioned in several manuals, but most don't discuss..Make sure you detune to the side of the initial signal and not over it as you may detune it out completely. Simple procedure that works well on most units and makes one a more proficient pinpointer...

I've never heard of detuning a coil in that manner....not since they went to digital electronics. Interesting concept. Just what exactly does a detuned coil do? Jim

OK, thanks Dan-Pa:

I'm doing what you refer to, just didn't recall the term "detune".

Appreciate the help:thumbup:

That's what it's called. You just keep clicking pinpoint till you get the target signal down to the size you want.

I asked Mary at the technical staff at Garrett regarding the ACE 250 about detuning a coil like described. She said she had never heard of it either. Maybe you have discovered something even Garrett doesn't know about? I'll give it a try and see if I can tell the difference. Jim

Detuning has been around since Hector was a pup. I can't believe Mary never heard of it. I'm going to have to have a talk with that girl. :)
