pinpoint lock function

starky

New member
Just wondering if any one uses the pinpoint lock function in the options menu, and what advantages, if any,is there to having it enabled?

I am guessing most of us do have it enabled. Simply don't have to keep your finger on the trigger to enable pinpoint. One click is on, one is off..

I honestly had no idea that function was on there...lol kind of just turned it on when I got the CTX a year ago and went detecting. I was cleaning it today, and decided to go through all the options to see what all was there, saw it, clicked on it and actually liked it other than I have always used the trigger as my back button when scrolling through the modes. Something I will have to get used to.
Thanks for the reply!

Opinions will vary. That is why we are allowed to turn it off or on. Personally, I don't lock the Pinpoint. I prefer to trigger the Pinpoint button, allowing me to quickly compare target signal between motion and non-motion modes. As to location of the button... I suppose it depends on the size of your hands or the strength of your finger. But there weren't many options for design, when you consider the purpose and it having to be waterproof. With that said, I like it just as it is. HH Randy

I don't lock the PP either, it takes just a few seconds to PP a target and this way I only have to squeeze the button once. The exception is when hunting in all metal which is VERY seldom.

I tried it today with the pinpoint lock, and after a few times, I did get used to it.
I honestly don't like one more than the other, so I guess at this point I will keep the box checked and see how it goes on the next outing.
Thanks for the opinions!

I went on a trip to Virgina last year, we hunted the James Madison estate. We were looking for a blacksmith shop that was there in the days of President Madison. I was using the Safari on that trip. I had to hunt with my pin point mode on. There were so many nails and a high mineral soil. When I tried to hunt in any other mode all I would get is static. I turned the sensitivity as low as I could, it didn't help. I would turn the pinpoint on and off so I wouldn't damage my machine. If I had the CTX the pinpoint option would have come in handy. We found hundreds of nails and a few nice surprises.
