Pinpoint: "Kick the Coil Up"

I have never quite got the hang of pinpointing effectively with Safari.

In Sabich and recently in a chat forum on findsbook where I talked to a Minelab employee, a very effective pinpointing technique was described called kicking the coil up.

22:25 Kevin H LOL actually if you kick the toe of the coil up while PP you will nail it about 1/2 inch off the toe
22:28 Kevin H Do the heel toe method of PP when you finish your 90 turn and are coming back across the target and it goes away you are at the toe of the coil now kick the coil up about an in / like that when it hit strong it is about 1/2in back

I am nowhere near a MD club and have not been able to find a video of this online. Does anyone know more precisely about this or how it is done? By "up" does this mean move the coil FORWARD an inch then?

TYVM!

When you locate a target slowly wiggle your coil while pulling the coil back toward you until the target sound goes away. Then slowly wiggle your coil moving it forward until the target responds again. Your target should be right under the front part of the coil. I hope this helps. HH :minelab:

Hi thedayawaits,
The method of pinpointing you are asking about is different than the wiggle method that hershey1 is talking about. This method is described on pg 24 of Andy's book where they kick up the coil to a vertical position and use the front edge of the coil to pinpoint.. I tried it once but I just couldn't seem to figure it out. I think I will take my whites out and pinpoint a target and mark it with a plastic milk jug cap as I can pinpoint very accurately with it. Then I will try this method. If I can get it figured out I will video it.

Yeah, I wish it were as easy as the wiggle / cross method! I tried it back when I first read Sabich's book also and didn't follow what he was saying. A video or some other more specific description is definately called for! Thanks for jumping on this Dan.
