Pin Pointing probes

I was wondering about the hand help pinpointing probes like the Merlin and Vibraprobes. Does anyone know if they are worth the money, and if they help locate your target any better?? I have got pretty good at pinpointing withe the 8" Sun Ray coil (within an inch or 2) Also what is the one most of ya use? Also if ya know a good website that might have more info on them??
Thanks GARY SMITH

The absolute best probe is the SunRay X-1. It actually is an attachment to the Explorer and as such gives you all the functions of the Explorer coil, i.e. depth, smart screen readings, pinpoint, audio, discrimination and it detects coins to about 3 inches. The other probes will only go an inch at best on a coin or usually less and they detect all metals within that range. So it will give a signal on a coin or a rusty nail equally. The X-1 with an upper rod is about $200.00, the other coils are about $100.00 or less. But which ever probe you choose it will definitely make your detecting trips easier and more productive. With the Explorer as you get good with it you will start to dig deeper coins and coins on edge. Both of which can make pinpointing less than perfect. A probe just saves me so much time finding coins in the hole or in the dirt I that have removed that I wouldn't go into the field without one.

The Vibraprobe is great. Very sturdy, although you wont dig with it, and is waterproof. After several hours of use it will likely get dirty or muddy during the winter. With it being waterproof it makes it very easy to clean. I am at the point I use it on almost every dig, speeds things up, can pinpoint an object in a plug in your hand so not have to destroy a plug looking for object...it's great. I am almost to point that I don't want to 'detect' without it because it makes the hunting process much easier. BUY ONE!

hi gary,
dont waste your money on those hand held probes. spend a little more for the sunray x-1 probe and youll be glad you did. stan
