pin pointers

Has anyone used the vibra- probe 580 pinpointer? I like the garrett pro pointer but it not water proof as the vibra probe. If yes, how do you like it and well does it work?
Thanks, auoregon

Kurt, if you live in the general Portland, Oregon metro area I would be glad to meet you at a dealer's shop and show you the difference first-hand.

Other than that, I will tell you that I am not a big water hunter. Most water hunting in at the beach and there a sand scoop is a valuable tool. I don't use a pinpointer all the time. Seldom, actually, but I tote the Garrett Pro-Pointer on my equipment belt because it provides the best general performance of any hand-held pin-pointer I have ever used for the dollar invested.

I have used the Vibra Probes and, usually, have not been too impressed with their depth or their general usefulness, especially considering their larger, bulkier design.

Some people like them, I don't.

I like mine very much. The only one I'VE used. Not much dept

Kurt, I am in the same situation, being a dirt digger and just getting into surf hunting. I wouldn't never be without my Pro Pointer, I think it's great. However, not being waterproof would be a problem around salt water. I read a post on one of the sites ( possibly here ) where a fellow hunter put his Pro Pointer in a vacuum bag and he said it worked great. Although he was a dirt hunter and just wanted to keep it waterproof the same would apply to hunting around the surf.

I had seen on-line where they sell vacuum bags, in different sizes, for people that make sausage and want to preserve them. With that configuration ( whatever size you want ) the Pro Pointer or any other pointer would fit perfectly into one of these bags and keep you pointer dry. When it's time to change the battery, just cut it , change the battery and reseal it.
