pin point with the 5x10 WS

I picked up a used 5x10" WS coil for my Tejon back in the dead of winner. I haven't had a chance to hunt with it yet but I was wondering if anybody could pass on some tips as to how to PP with that coil? Just wanted to say I am not new to the Tejon I have had it for a couple of years now and I have no problems PP with the stock 9x8. I have heard that this 5x10 may be PPing off the toe of the coil. I even saw a small 5.75" WS pictured with a red dot on the toe of the coil.

Just hoping for a jump start on this coil when I can get out.

I have high hopes for this coin, I had a 5x10" coil for another brand machine and it was the only coil that I would run on it. That elliptical shape and size seemed to be the best all around hunter I have come across. Its depth was better than the small coils but with 5" width it done about as good in the trash, then 10" length gave me vary good ground coverage. Just to top it all off it got about the depth as the stock coil.

Thinking I will love this coil.

The 5x10 is hard to beat. One of the easiest coils to PP with also. I run it on my Vaquero when in trash.

PP with the toe like you said, when it hits a target drag the coil back and wiggle it no more that a couple inches, just to where it starts to break up and the target will normally be right at the toe.

I like them so well, I just got another detector and the 5x10 was the first thing I bought for it.

Think I will,

Thanks guys,

Some folks also do the pinpoint off the heel of the coil.
I just use the center of the coil and when I dig a plug I just cut a narrow football shaped one (oval shape).

Using the toe worked good, I dug about 150 pulltabs today and after the first 4 or 5 I had it. I don't understand I don't hear a lot of people bragging about how many pull tabs they found these days.

Thanks guys that tip was the best thing since shirt pockets.

Well, keep count of the tabs so when you find another 14k wedding ring you can tell us how many tabs it takes to get a ring. LoL!

I'll say 2,500

I forgot to say anything about the junk coins I found along with those nice pulltabs. I was cleaning a 40' x one swing width area, and I got down to foil on the disc and got 1 clad dime, 1 nickel, 1 copper penny and 1 wheat 1948 penny. Covered that much area in 6 hours.

All in all I am pretty happy with the Tejon an the 5x10ws coil.

Well, with all the post that only reflect Gold, Silver, buckets of coins tends to give the newbies and lurkers the idea that all you have to do is buy a metal detector and a shovel and go out and dig up pockets full of treasures. No, I really don't like to read about some ones day of only picking up pull tabs, but at lest it better reflects the hard truth about the hobby.

Now that I got PP down to a fine art and have air tested this coil and it hangs there with the stock 9x8 coil. But I was wondering you ever found any deep coin targets in the ground? The silver coins in the area I hunt run about 6" in the ground and being that I never found a silver with it yet I was wondering if you think it will go the 6" in the ground? I have only got about 6 hours hunting time with this coil and the one wheat penny was down maybe 4 or 5".

Hey Ron, my personal opinion is that with the 5x10 you are reaching its maximum depth capabilities at around 8" in disc mode, even less when running disc past Nickel. In All Metal though, it runs a close race to my 10x12, maybe only a 1" max loss in depth. Most coins here are in the 4-6" range in undisturbed ground. I have dug targets deeper than 8" while relic hunting running disc just above iron, so I am confident that it has the ability to reach the depth of 8" on coin size targets.
