this morning i hunted a beach first with my new coil, that's okay.i then tried to hunt in the park next to the beach , a lot of hits but i couldn't find half of them.on the beach in the sand not a problem, the width of the scoop handles any discrepancies between where the target actually is,however on grass my screwdriver has to have an exact spot to dig . i've looked at faqfaq at nero's post on where the pp is.are those lables placed there to indicate where the actual pp is or are they just dressing. i tried an air test with a coin on the ground and found it to be halfway between the lable and the stem attachement.tried this on a real target and it wasn't even close, needlessly to say that targets still; there somewhere ! thank you all for your forth coming assistance to my latest little problem. hh blowfly :detecting:

The easiest way for me to pinpoint with any DD coil, particularly the elliptical variety, is to wiggle the coil over the target, while working it toward my feet. You'll get a pretty good idea as to where the target is, as far as right and left are concerned, with a few sweeps. And as you drag the coil toward you (with the target somewhere beneath the center axis of the DD coil), the audio sound will drop off just as the target passes the front edge. HH Randy

G'day Blowfly,

I find that by doing the wiggle over the target in prospect mode I get the loudest signal under the sticker on the front half of the coil.
The target is usually in an area of a couple of inches by a couple of inches and generally found in a few seconds with the screwdriver, although on occasions the target can be a bit elusive.
In which case just requires a bit more prodding.
Always get there eventually.

Cheers.

Lou.

The coil I have pinpoints right in front of the reinforcements on the coil.. Just draw a line from reinforcement to reinforcement the pinpoint should be in the middle between the two.. I found mine by using a dime on edge and turning down the sensitivity way, way down.. Once I found it, I moved the sticker to where it was at..

I like to swing left to right then right to left in pinpoint to find highest sound level, I then pull the coil straight back until the sound drops off. The coin will be directly below the front tip of the coil when the sound drops off.

Mine pinpoints about 1" in front of the coil lugs. If I don't use the pinpoint and just wiggle the coil left and right while staying on target the sound will drop off about 1" from either the front or the back of the coil.
