Pictures of the first underwater detectors

The first photo is the very first UW detector, Basically it was a Garrett detector in a home made plastic housing, the second was the first one in an Ikelite housing, the same as they are today. Here I'm showing it to the head of the Texas Antiquities Committee, they were intersted in my new design. Before these we used weighted coils with a long cord attached to a regular detector, your partner stayed topside and gave a jerk when there was a signal.. The third photo is me testing the very first PI machine to be in the USA, (built in Ireland), on a Mexican beach. We've come a long way, huh?
