quick search this morning tells me the Militia had its beginnings around the time of confederation....1867 so this button may well predate 1900 although the Militia seems to have carried on till around the first world war...pics are the best I can do right now....have included a pic found on Ebay which I think is the same button...also...the penny I showed last night is a 43...Gary....also..any tips on cleaning the coins would be appreciated
 
I would just recommend warm water and a soft bristled toothbrush. I never get tired of finding buttons.
