Hey Everyone,
Heres a pic of some Georgia Gold I found with my detector either directly or indirectly. The large nugget wieghs 7.2 grams and was found with a GTI 2500. The small nugget is 0.3 grams and was found looking for pockets of black sand with same detector using manual ground balance. It was found in and outcrop of bedrock in the middle of a creek with smaller placer in the pan also. All the rest was panned but was found only by looking for blacksand deposits. It seems faster this way and less trial and error. Got the detector from Gerry in Idaho as you all are familiar with here! Thanks again Gerry. I have recently found an old gold mine hear in Ga. finally after looking for it for awhile and to my suprise it still has about 500-1000 feet of tunnels open. I went back about 200 feet with a pen light and decided to come back later. All the walls of the mine that I saw so far are mica schist with pyrite and quartz throughout! Lots of freemilling area and placer area to keep me busy for awhile. Enjoy! Alan (Ga)

Looks like your going to be very busy...........best of luck with your search and I hope you find a mother load!
Cheers!

Nice Au Bear,

I once spent a bit of time underground...

Be really cautious in those old mines.

Best to do the buddy system, like in scuba diving.

Always tell someone at home and leave exact directions with lines and arrows and all, and when you expect to return.

Always take spare flashlights, snacks and water in your pockets. BDU field jackets are good.

Always keep an eye on the floor when back in a drift... if a relatively clean floor all of a sudden starts showing fallen debris it is most likely unstable and NOT the wisest place to be.

The safest of the old mines may now be treacherous as the cribbing and shoring is probably severely rotted.

Lotsa fun, and very possible to reopen an old mine profitably at $823/oz because they quit being worked at $35/oz.

Good luck!

Alan, That GA gold sure is pretty. Glad you had Success with your GTI-2500. The bigger one is just shy of a 1/4'er and I'll tell you that is big for most parts of the lower 48 states.

Keep up the hunt and I wish you more luck. With gold over $900 oz now, it won't take much to find and you can buy another detectors.

Just think....all my trips back to GA were for hunting CW artifacts... I could have been chasing gold....

Great story and photos.

Thanks for sharing.

Gerry
