6 inch high frequency coil to go with it.Been trying it out in some iron trash with the high 6DD 99 tones all metal. and man this thing is awesome at seperating trash.Cant believe what the other detectors I've been running are leaving behind.Ive noticed the 99 tones lets the targets in iron come through better than the 2.3.4. tone any one else notice this or is it just the high frequency combined with the 99 tones? im also running sensitivity wide open at 30.IN my 23 years of hunting this is the first time ive ever pulled bird shot out of dense iron actually I belive its the first time ive ever dug bird shot period.

Now I've got a couple of questions

1 In prospecting mode running the iron mask up to 20 I still here nails is this common?Does it just get rid of the smallest of iron in this mode?

2 For deep hunting relics in open ground out away from the old house sites what is the best coil for depth yet sensitivity to brass and lead ( I.E. Buttons and Bullets)

thanks for any input.

Congrats on the new detector. Iron mode on 20 in prospect mode will not most likely get rid of nails. It will get rid of the smaller stuff. For depth, the 10.5 7.5kHz DD coil is the one I would choose. It really finds the deep targets and lets you run the sensitivity up high. Enjoy your 70, the more you use it, the more you'll love it.

Good hunting, John K

the beach mode was on and it was accepting small iron with the beach mode i guess the phase shift was screwed up like that.Good thing to know if your picking small iron up in iron mask setting in prospecting mode your beach mode is activated.

I wonder if beach mode is activated in prospecting mode if you loose silver? since you hear small iron humm?

man this is a sweet detector guys.

You could also switch from Prospect mode to C&R mode in pattern one. It will notch out a nail and tell you if you have something worth digging.

Good hunting, John K

Keith, Each of us have our preferences for setting up our X-Terras. My soil conditions are mild enough that I don't usually have to use DD coils. In fact, when GB readings are higher than 28, I always use a concentric. My favorite concentric for sites with iron is the 3 kHz. By running in Coin/Treasure, all metal mode with multiple tones, I have no problem discerning the deep iron or even nails. I will occassionally slip over to the Prospecting mode to get additional information on target size or shape. But the low tone of iron is easy for me to separate with this combination. If I am hunting an area that is not laden with lots of old iron trash, I will use the 6-inch DD and guarantee that there is no better combination for old silver dimes. HH Randy

Hi Keith,

Try comparing the disc mode depth between standard mode and beach mode on some test targets. Use the same sens setting and see what results you get. ;) Also try out the beach mode in areas where you have to drop the sensitivity due to too much chatter.
