Finally managed to get the E-trac out of the closet for only the second time this year. A little embarrassed that I've been so slack about hunting. It took a pestering phone call from a best friend to get me out the door. We agreed to meet at one of our old stomping grounds.
Once I found where I wanted to hunt, my first find was a 1 mil, Utah Sales Tax Token. Next, I found a wheatie only a few inches deep. A few feet away from the wheatie, I picked up a HIGH tone and was able to isolate it easily at 8/48 on the E-trac about 5" deep. I was thinking silver quarter. I was wrong. 1940 S Walking Half. A very nice surprise. I carefully searched around this find and about 5' away I picked up a 12/47 signal, again with that nice silver sound to it. I was thinking dime and I was right, 1941 D Mercury. Again, I searched around where the Mercury dime was and just a few feet away was another strong, high signal, but this was reading lower than the Walker at 1/44 - 3/45 and was only a few inches deep. Up popped a beautiful reeded edge of what had to be a silver dollar and it was a 1921 S Morgan. And just a few feet to the right of this was another high signal that turned out to be a pair of wheaties.
I searched the area carefully looking for any other signals. All was quiet. I hunted for a total of about 5 hours and was tired and thirsty by the time I called it quits.
It has been a while since I turned up a silver half or dollar. It is really nice to find one of each within a few minutes of each other and in beautiful condition as well.
My friend is still onsite and my hope is I will get a phone call shortly with good news of more good finds.
Best of luck out there.
