Picked Up a Pocket Spill today

Finally managed to get the E-trac out of the closet for only the second time this year. A little embarrassed that I've been so slack about hunting. It took a pestering phone call from a best friend to get me out the door. We agreed to meet at one of our old stomping grounds.

Once I found where I wanted to hunt, my first find was a 1 mil, Utah Sales Tax Token. Next, I found a wheatie only a few inches deep. A few feet away from the wheatie, I picked up a HIGH tone and was able to isolate it easily at 8/48 on the E-trac about 5" deep. I was thinking silver quarter. I was wrong. 1940 S Walking Half. A very nice surprise. I carefully searched around this find and about 5' away I picked up a 12/47 signal, again with that nice silver sound to it. I was thinking dime and I was right, 1941 D Mercury. Again, I searched around where the Mercury dime was and just a few feet away was another strong, high signal, but this was reading lower than the Walker at 1/44 - 3/45 and was only a few inches deep. Up popped a beautiful reeded edge of what had to be a silver dollar and it was a 1921 S Morgan. And just a few feet to the right of this was another high signal that turned out to be a pair of wheaties.

I searched the area carefully looking for any other signals. All was quiet. I hunted for a total of about 5 hours and was tired and thirsty by the time I called it quits.

It has been a while since I turned up a silver half or dollar. It is really nice to find one of each within a few minutes of each other and in beautiful condition as well.

My friend is still onsite and my hope is I will get a phone call shortly with good news of more good finds.

Best of luck out there.

Those are some awesome finds! I just took my new to me Etrac out for the first time today. Is there a reason the Fe numbers came up lower on the Etrac for the Half and silver dollar?

From the experience of others, and what I've read in my E-trac guide, a Low Fe reading is common on the silver dollars and Half dollars. I've made sure that I keep that area open on my discrimination in hopes of turning up one of these coins while hunting. This is my first silver dollar with my E-trac and one of just a few halves with an Explorer or E-trac. I am quite confident that if I go over one, I will be notified.

Thanks for the kind replies.

That is some impressive Big Silver! A Walker and a Morgan, what a thrill that must have been! I was just sitting here looking at a Morgan my wife and kids bought me last year for my birthday, and could not imagine what it would be like to find such a massive coin! Great job!

Awesome finds Rich! That'd be a record hunt in my book! Thanks for the pictures.

I've thought the same thing. I believe the chances might have been high they were dropped when there was snow on the ground and by the time the snow had melted the dollar had sunk enough that it wasn't recovered. That's a big chunk of metal and I imagine it would make a good sound when it fell out of someone's pocket on firm ground. Not to mention that they'd be easy for someone to see when they were freshly dropped. With that in mind, I've spent some time working areas where people congregated for winter activities. I still haven't found one either, but this is only my second year.

Wow, what a nice hunt!! Still waiting on my first silver dollar. Will probably go crazy if I ever find one.

WOW!!! Excellent finds. Congrats!!

Nice hunt Rich! I'm glad to see someone's pulling some good silver here because I sure haven't been. Way to make your hunt count!
