Had made some plans to do a little ring hunting today, but had a little bit too much to do around the house and didn't get time. I did get a call and an invite from Kid Silver to go hunt a silver era house (30's-40's) with him. He picked up a V3 a few weeks ago and is in process of learning his new machine.
We spent a couple hours there doing target ID, depth and sound comparisons. It makes learning much faster when you have a chance to do things this way. He got on the board with his first older coins with the machine and gained some confidence in the capabilities of his detector.
The yard wasn't real big and came complete with plenty of old style sprinkler heads (the half dollar sounding kind) an old front walk, and a rock irrigation gutter out front. I picked up several copper pennies, a couple clad dimes and quarters. One small area contained a large iron null, but the e-trac gave out a nice solid 10-46, 12-46 signal about centered in the null. From only 3-4" came a '36 Washington quarter.
I picked up what I thought was a copper penny along the driveway, that ended up being a silver '49 Roosevelt. Wasn't worn much but read down in the 42-43 range, even out of the ground.
Managed a couple wheaties as well before it got dark and it was time to call it a night.
Best of luck to the rest of you out there.
