Hi All, Went in the water yesterday and picked up a 14K 3.3 gram name ring and a 10K 9.5 gram diamond?/CZ? necklace which I almost passed up since it gave No solid repeatable tone but a low boken tone 2 out of 4 times.Any doubt dig it up! Good Luck! Walter

Walter,

I was just curious where you hunt. Do you reside up in the northeast? Just curious because if you hunt up north, I am trying to get info on recent sand movement now that we might have some north to northeast winds.

Gary

Hi Newtohunting, Yes I live in the northeast. Long Island, N.Y.You must get familiar with a certain beach for sand movement by photos or mental notes of how it looks in the summer. One of the beaches I go to has wood poles going in the water. If 1 foot of pole is showing then you know if you go back and 3 feet is exposed then sand was removed.Look for cuts. Learn how to read a beach. If it does not look good get in the car and find another. Some people get stuck with hunting only 1 beach. The last few years even Nor-eastern have hardly done any erosion on the beaches I hunt in the winter so I started going in the water out of frustration. Good Luck!! Walter

One last question,??????????????????
When you found the loot, were you in deep water, neck deep, knee deep, waist deep. Just curious because out here in salisbury, big waves creep up during winter and death is possible.

Thanks for the great info.

Gary

you still don't get that all the loot will be in the wet sand not water!!! i have pulled 100's of gold items out of salisbury and hampton!!! maybe 10 out of water in hampton that were fresh drops in july or aug!!!no matter what detector you switch too or how many different opinions you get..you not gonna get much loot till you learn you detector and our beaches..here in va the difference between high and low is 50 ft thats why you got to get wet to get loot!! if you watch cubfan and listen to his 2 cents you might do well!!! he's learing hot spots it took me a year to figure out!! go to the beach this northeaster and try to learn!!take some photos!!! other wise your just gonna get more and more pi**ed off when the hunting gets good and your out there lost while everyone else is cleaning up!!

Hi Newtohunting, Do not go in the ocean with chest waders unless it is an extremely calm day with almost no waves and wear a belt around your waist in case water goes over the top. I hunt in the SOUND OR BAY where the water is Calm most of the time and I found the pieces in a trough chest deep where you can get to only at Low tide and I still was not totally in it. Good luck, Walter

Allright! But alsohave to get out there when I have the time. Doing thebest I can for the time. But seems like Sov GT much easier to distinguish tones than Excal. I am moving at a snails pace with excal. Like someone else said, Excal loves lobster parts and those darn things can kill your hunting time. Gt seems to work better in wet and dry sand.

Nice finds Walter. I wonder if you could share a tip on some decent spots on Long Island. I go up there from Delaware about twice a month to visit my Daughter in college. not sure what are the good beaches? I have been traveling to the Island for about 30 years ( Seaford) and only detected once there. Thanks...
