Hi. I'm new to the forum but not to the hobby. I have been detecting for over 15 yrs and now my current detector is my XLT. Planning on purchasing an underwater unit. I live in western NC and would mostly use it at freshwater lakes and rivers. I usually go to the beach twice a year and thats about as much salt water as it would get. Which detector would be best for my situation? Does one work better in fresh water than the other?? Vice-versa? I would appreciate your opinions from people who have used these machines.
Thanks in advance
mike

Betwee n the two you mention, the Beach Hunter would be the better choice in terms of having some discrimination. The Surf Pro PI has none and in fresh water, things like hair pins tend to last next to forever. In other words without the ability to discirminate out or recognize iron, you would be digging more than your share if you can't discrimate some of the trash out.

Think about the Tiger Shark or Stingray 2 as well ....... The only reason I got a BHID was 90% of the time I'm in brackish/saltwater.(and I swapped a PI for it -$$) But I'm very,very,very glad I did get the BHID. I have yet to try it in the fresh but others have and with the "Gobble-Gobble-Gold" settings/program it's a deep seeker. Years ago I had an Excal it's a good machine too. My 2 zincs!

Like Mirco states, using a PI in a fresh water lake you will find every tin can in the state of NC.......... you will be much better off with a VLF water machine..

The PI would not be the best choice for fresh water (great in deeper salt water).

I have the BHID 12" coil and it's the same as the BHID 300. The detector is great and goes very deep.

I recently used mine on a fresh water beach and pulled out a bunch of deep silver jewelry. This is one of the deepest fast recovery detectors I've used and is my "favorite all around" beach hunting detector.

I also use other water hunting machines for various conditions (fresh water, salt, wet sand, deeper water, sanded in area, hunted hard location). If I had to choose only one water machine then it would be the BHID 300!

Thanks and HH!!!!!!:usaflag::whites::thumbup:
