PI Gold...

Craig-PI

New member
I worked all day yesterday so I decided to take this morning off and go to a favorite beach of mine and I hit a little gold and a toe ring with a nitro as well as a few earrings.. I used my PI and that 14k medal was a deepy... I have to say this I prefer my PI over the Excal and I'm sure some of you won't like that lol... Its just lighter and I can swing it faster.. I love the Excal for the wet sand and will always use it there but in the water its PI time :)

We headed in the wrong direction yesterday..........eastern end of the state for a late low tide..........bad choice!!!..........very sanded and targets were scarce and deep.

I've never hunted up there... but I wouldn't mind trying that beach your Excals were nulling out constantly on... I have tried it with the PI and there was way too much iron for PI use there... I heard that the beach back in the 40's was used as a landfill hence the amount of iron.. Did you try around the fishing pier? lot of coins there..

I found two of those big heart-shape earrings last year. One half looked like a candy cane or something.. it was around Christmas. Wish they were gold!!!

GH, I may have come off a little harsh in my post..I love my Excal and I'm impressed with its depth in the wet sand but in the water I'm going with my PI... beaches I hunt for the most part have very little trash in the water.. there is a couple beaches I want to hunt but won't with my PI because of so much iron and I will use the Excal in them but later on in the winter when its colder, this beach I worked yesterday had a thick mound of sand that got washed out recently and its where I found the goodies yesterday, I'm guessing a foot of sand was lopped off the mound, last week it was clean looking sand and when I saw it yesterday it was down to darker muddy sand and I gridded it and everything I found was from that same area of the beach... :)

I see it as having the best of both worlds :)

Edited to add, I would love to find that chain but PI's suck at finding chains unless there is a big clasp or a ring is on them and I'm sure this chain is big by the loop on the medal and the wear marks.. either its really deep or possibly someone else years gone by found it..
