Yesterday's hunt 2 silver and 2 wheat's.Weapon of choice with S-1 probe and my home-brewed 180 meter. The single plug battery plug has been installed and the plate slide in tossed.HH Ron

Nice finds Ron.
I like the meter you made for your Sovereign.. looks very professional and easy to see the display.
With Minelab discontinuing the meters, you may have a small business venture potential!!

yes, nice finds! I like your meter too. Nice setup.

Felix, these meters work great. There are a lot of small details to complete to get the finished product. Thanks Ron

EPL,Any silver find makes my day.A little patience with the Sovereign will produce good finds. Thanks Ron

I have the same set up except for a straight shaft, next on my to do list. good hunting oj bc

ps did you convert a thermal measuring meter? Looks like some I use in the appliance service trades?

OJM,the meter is a converted Cen Tech the front is a thin metal plate to cover the dial and test port that has been removed, the mount brkt is a 3/4 x 6 inch pipe hanger that has been grind ed,bent and drilled to fit the back cover, the battery has been removed from the box and mounted inside a tube that runs through through the hanger,an on off switch mounted in back near the top and N gauge inlet and plugs to connect to unit, the box and hanger painted and a port drilled to access the tuning pot to calibrate and a cover whew! yea a lot of work. The straight shaft is a combo of a couple Minelab rod assemblies drilled bolted and epoxy together.I haven't added a refrigerator yet LOL.Thanks Ron

Ron great finds , I wish i could find more silver but its maybe one time a year if I am lucky and i have never found Gold , I get a bit madd at the vidioes with the mighty music playing like the guy doing the detecting is some legend in metaldetecting , or its the detector thats so good when in reallity its the spot thats so good put me in a good spot and you would see lots of silver to , like those easter states that have been inhabited for 500 years my part of town is so lean its unbelevible and i have done lots of hunting I have degenerated to being happy finding cut nails. ( how have i fallen)

That does look nice Ron and I am sure it took some time to do all of this. I made one too and that is what i was using to try it out last Sunday, but very crude as I just mounted it on a piece of alum I had laying around and it had the right bend for the angle. The meter is fastened on it and I only cut off the ends of the wires from the meter and found a cable where i was able to connect to the control box and use the wire from pins 5 & 6 to connect the 2 wires from the meter too. Just got as lot of extra cable hanging on it that i need to trim down. Like I say it is a bit crude, but wanted to see how well it would work before spending a lot of time doing something that wont work. With your info and pictures is what helped to make this all possible and I am very happy with how well it works.
Being i have the meter controls yet I went to a lower setting ( 2 volts instead of the 20 volts) to see how it would react and see if there was any way to tell the difference between the copper pennies, dimes and quarters, but they all seem to read the same.

Thanks again for all the info on your meter as i am sure it has helped many.

Rick

Gunnar,my favorite places to hunt are old parks. My advice drive to a nearby town and look for parks. Here in Oxford I have exhausted Stoney Lk it use to produce silver every hunt but now maybe a wheat or a clad so I moved to other places. The state park near by I hunted last month produced a 14k 11grm ring. This is a different state park I found the latest silver a 12 mile drive one way I drive the bike to cut fuel cost.I have drove by prime hunting areas and only became aware of the potential only after trying these parks.Give us a nearby reference point of your location and I bet people here could come up with near by leads using satellite maps. Thanks Good Luck Ron

Rick,I like those 3/4 inch pipe hangers that are sold at Home Depot. If you decide to try one sort through a couple to make sure the solder is good some are loose and will fall apart.I even use these on the Minelab meters.I just sold a ML meter couple of weeks ago with the V clip mounted on a pipe hanger.Let me know if you have any luck with separating copper from silver. Thanks Ron
