I posted this on the Minelab owners forum and I figured I ask your advice too:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I tried the shallow surf yesterday at the beach. As soon as the coil hit the water, it started falsing all over the place. I remembered reading something about checking the coil wire and making sure it didn't flop around near the coil. I had a very small loop taped up near the coil (so there wouldn't be any tension at the coil connection (I had just put on an X-1 and those were the instructions). I tightened up the loop and it was better but it still falsed too much. I tried lowering the sensitivity a little (perhaps not enough) and even ran on auto sens. but it didn't help much. Maybe auto sens doesn't react fast enough?

Anyone have this problem? BTW, I siliconed my coil cover and it looks intact (once out of the water the problem immediately goes away)

Do you think taping the wire straight up the shaft a bit before coiling it around the shaft will help? One other thing... I have my coil loose so it flops down flat all the time. Maybe when I hit the water it's either floating up or getting pushed up by the waves and not laying flat? Could that be the problem?

Oh, I did realize one other thing... When I was on the dry sand, I noticed I was getting some falsing on my left side. Hmmm... checked my wader boots; no metal... Checked my left pants pocket and found my cell phone. Sure enough, I put it in my shirt pocket and the problem went away

Thanks!

Leaving for the forum hunt in Michigan in the morning!!! Can't wait!!! :jump
