Personal clad record

Rather than going for the old stuff I decided to switch it up and try and beat my personal clad record of 147. I headed for a local high school and decided to hunt the side entrance of the school where I had noticed a lot of students hang out before and after school. I ended up hunting for 6 hours and at the end of the day I ended up with 308 coins (all clad) which included a back breaking 220 pennies, 45 nickels, 14 quarters and 29 dimes. The ratio of pennies to everything else was way off from normal so I figure the kids must be having penny wars in their spare time, haha! I also found a dolphin pendent and another junk ring. I also wanted to included a picture of my fair share of junk I dug. Thanks for looking.

Wow! Way to go, bet its a while before you break that record!:beers:

WOW ..... 308 coins ..... that is truly outstanding. I suspect that hunt will bring a huge smile every time it crosses your mind. Hope you had a good supply of liniment.

Your insight into selecting a great location to do the clad hunt was also outstanding. I wonder how many detectorists passed your site without a thought? It does pay off to be observant.

My one day clad record stands at 130 coins. I quit that day because I was tired, not because it was getting dark. I am certain that 308 coins in one day is physically out of reach for me.

Again, congratulations ...... that is a record to be proud of.

Continued good luck and having fun, Bob

Thanks Bob...impressive 2007 coin count yourself. My real goal is to find as many halves and dollars that you have...nice work! I've just found one Benjamin silver half this year at a local park and it was at a confusing 3/4". I still feel pretty young at 32 but it was quite physically exhausting to dig that many coins along with all the trash. I don't plan on beating that clad number any time soon! I was even being stubborn and digging most of the sketchy nickel and good sounding pop top targets as not to miss any rings. Like you, I had to quit at the end of the day out of sheer exhaustion. Now I'm off to find one of those silver dollars like you got!

Hi Matt,

Oh, I wish it was so that my half and dollar finds this year were silver, but they were only clad. The two halves were Kennedys, a 1995 and a 2000D. All three of the dollars were 2000 Sacagaweas. I am more than happy to have found all of them but, like you, I thought silver would have been nice.

Congratulations on your Franklin find. However, It may not be all that unusual to find halves and full size dollars quite shallow in some situations. Both of my halves were found even shallower than yours. And, both were found along side a rebar enforced sidewalk in a lawn with large brass sprinkler heads and full of aluminum and iron trash. They were in parks that get hammered by lots of coin hunters. I believe other detectorists had dismissed them as sprinkler heads and/or had their gain so high the halves were masked by the sidewalk rebar. I almost walked away from both of them also. I now wonder how many I may have bypassed. Was your Fraklin found in a similar situation?

Thanks for the comment about my coin count. However it is not nearly as impressive when you know I am retired and can hunt just about anytime I want.

I do wish you good luck finding those silver dollars and halves. I am still looking for my first of either.

Have fun, Bob
