Persistence at the beach

There was a near minus tide yesterday so I spent a few hours on the beach with my trusty old Toltec II and it still gets the job done. Not shown are a 1900 IH and a barely identifiable V- nickel. There both presently soaking in olive oil in hopes of improving more of there detail. Over the years there's been a lot of MDing traffic on this stretch of beach but from the amount of non-ferrous targets I'm still digging I have a hunch the majority are hunting with high discrimination and bypassing any targets that sound iffy. Not that I mind though.:poke: HH

knarfi, If others are using med - high discrimination on the beach, then you will do very well (as you probably have been doing for years). Your Tesoro will serve you well, it is up to the user how well it is used. HH Pete

Good finds,

The old school Tesoro's get the job done. The Toltec ll is one of my favorites, just love the sound of the audio on deep targets.... I run mine at minimum disc.

They run quiet in the iron with the ED-120 disc. circuit and will out hunt a lot of the newer digital models, that's probably one explanation of what is still left for you to find.

Thanks for the comments, I agree 100%.

The majority of our beaches are not what would normally be thought of as your typical sandy beach, most are covered with a course mixture of sand and gravel, the gravel ranging from pea sized to about the size of an apple. It's been my experience *using any machine that I have owned or used* under these ground conditions it's a tough go, *if* your only willing to investigate/dig good repeatable targets.

When I'm hunting one of our beaches, with any machine, I use close to zero discrimination and as a general rule I scrape the top layer of gravel off *any* audible target with my foot to see it the signal improves. If it does improve I always dig. There are times I dig even if the improvement is ever so slight and have still scored.

I can't comment on whats inside the box that makes my Toltec II do what it does but this much I know. It has found more non-ferrous objects closer to rusted (iron) objects then any other detector that I have owned on or off the beach. And yet using low discrimination levels I dig very few nails and I honestly can't remember the last time I've dug an iron/steel bottle cap.
