Permits...are they needed?

I was unsure of where to post this so yeah; I recently got a metal detector & was trying to find out whether or not if a permit is needed. If so where can I get one?

By the way, newbie here :D just got a Tool Solutions Metal Detector Pro; literately just put it together tonight hehehe

Most places you don't need a permit, some you do. I've never heard of your detector, who makes it

Really? Thanks! And yes my detector is one not many have heard of before because this is one my grandma got for me out of a magazine :D However it is still waterproof, it can discriminate against different metals & all that jazz so really this is the perfect 1st metal detector for me just to see if I will even like it or not. I'll probably take it with me to my grandpa's for my first dig; his house is in the country LOL. Honestly I'm not sure who makes this detector:#%$&*^(@

Hey another question; my grandpa's yard has recently been littered with holes...I'm curious to know what most people's holes look like when they dig for something? He just recently had some new neighbors move in & I'm wondering if they are digging in his yard or if they are letting their dogs run.

Grandpa's yard is a great place to learn your machine and how to recover targets and repair sod.. best to hone your skills on private property before venturing onto public.... most parks have rules posted.. even if allowed it's usually best to go at times when least amount of people are present , just keeps it simple... this time of year skunks make little round 1/2 inch holeslooking for grubs... lots of little holes....

Well the holes are round; like almost perfectly round LOL but they ain't little hehehe well I guess they would be considered small-ish in diameter but man they are deep! It's crazy how deep some of them are LOL but will keep that in mind; grandpa was thinking they were being made from foxes but wanted to be sure.

Thanks for all your help guys!

You can get a detector so cheap that you find very little, and think its not worth the time. I think many people hang it up because of this.
Basically you have a "beep & dig" detector-no target i.d.; and I cannot tell if it has tones.
Can you pick up a dime at 3" of depth, set to knock out iron?
You might check out these two Forums; New Users, & Metal Detecting Forum-they are very general-but good for a beginner.
Also watch videos on youtube. :detecting:

Yeah it said I can reject Iron & a few others according to were I set it; just got to play with it :p Thank will check out those forums tomorrow - off to bed now. I love youtube that was how I figured out how to put the metal detector together LOL.

If there's an armadillo on your grandpa's place, it could be the cause of the holes. Their smaller holes may appear triangular where they only stick their noses into the ground in search of grubs or ants. Larger round holes are their burrows.
