Have any of you ever make or created a letter for a permission to metal detecting in privet property? I'm trying to make one but I need some ideas what to put on it.
I will appreciate any input.

Keep it simple.

Sometimes to much legal will "NOT" get you permission....It points out the negative responsibility people have allowing others on their property.......a simple verbal is good.......... or a letter from owner if they are out of State owners is even better for you.. Saying you have their permission to be there....

Look back on this forum you should be able to locate them.....

Sometimes we are all guilty of making this Hobby a little more involved than it really needs to be.... Bringing up liability to home owners can cause issues they didn't think about before you brought it up..

Elton is right . Only do such a thing if THEY ask for it. Otherwise handing a total stranger a contract to sign is the fastest way to get a "no".

Things are alot different here... It's hard to tell where private property is. There are little, if not, no private property signs displayed and walls are all stone with alot of crumbled areas and trails going through the properties. I basically go through the land not closed off by gates or signs, and if an owner eventually comes along and wants me off the land, then I'm off. Hasn't happened yet. I only once asked permission on one lot where I met the owner first, he said no, and that was the end of it, no hard feelings.
Meeting up with land owners first, talking about the hobby second, and asking permission third, is the best way to get things done.

Thank you all for your input, You all mentioned something that I haven't think about and that is the legally and complexity of how a letter can be, I will stick to verbal permission,
on my first idea it was going to be just a later of introduction with my name, phone number, email and Little of explanation about our hobby and information about the club that I belong to, but like you all said it may be to much for the home or property owner.
again, Thank you!

Link to posts on liability form and permission form and opinions of when to use and not use.

Hope this helps. By the way, I agree ... should be only used when asked for!

Sorry, should also have included this great thread on how to ask for permission to MD in the above post. It's got some great advice in it.

Again, hope this helps.

Thank you michaelosully, that is good letter for disclaimer on liability, One thing that I'm going to do is make some business cards to give them to the home honers or property owners when I came to ask for permission to :twodetecting: I think it will give them at lease better idea on who m'I.
