Permission denied to a privately owned 18th century historical site

Why? Not because I didn't ask right, or have the right connections (which I most definitely do) but because the first and last guy that the owner allowed to detect there dropped a cigarette butt which caught the grass on fire which then burned down one of his barns...


Please be careful out there smokers....

If it ain't detectorists tearing up park lawns, its detectorists burning down the place.
This is the first time i heard of this type of refuse permission excuse.
 
I got turned down a few weeks ago by an older couple because 20 years ago some "other teenagers" snuck onto the property and set their shed on fire....I'm 31.
 
Some things aren't easily forgotten...
