Periscope, X-1, or both? (re-visiting the pinpointer topic)

Is there anyone who has both the periscope & the X-1. I know i wouldnt want to be without the periscope. Do these pinpointers compliment each other or would it be a waste to have both?

Hi Peter,
Does the point of the Periscope almost have to be touching the coin for it to register?
Will it tell you if it is a coin or jewelry or trash by a given tone?
I'm looking for a good pinpointer myself. I've heard that the X-1 is a great marriage between it and the Explorer. And one need only be 2 to 3 inches from the target.
How is the Periscope you are using?

Peter,
I had the Periscope and just sold it, it is a great pinpointer if you want to know if it is a good target and where it is without digging a plug. Now 99% of my site I can dig a plug and go in with the X1 and find and reteive the target before I could find the target with the Periscope, so the X1 is the only one I need and the Periscope just sat.
There is a couple of drawback with the Periscope I notice, one is if the ground is rocky it is hard to use and alum foil is the other as it will go through it and not give a noticeable signals other than that I found it to be great.
Now on the X1 I can dig a plug and take out some dirt and find the target as it has a good 3 inches of depth from the tip of the probe and tell if it is a good or bad target.

no, it just has to be within an inch or two, there is a sensitivity setting to adjust this.
Will it tell you if it is a coin or jewelry or trash by a given tone?
it will discriminate between iron, mid & hi conductivity.

yes, but you always have to dig a plug. with the periscope you can always check the real deepie / if'ies without first digging a huge hole.
which is good with the explorer, because the exp. goes real deep, and good deep targets may not give you a reading & tone that you would normally dig.

its great!, but i may also try the X-1 after reading the posts.

It is by far the best and only probe you will need for the Explorer.
