Periscope detector

What ever happened to those Periscope probe detectors they came out with a decade or so ago? Anyone ever see or try one? Just curious as to how practical they were. If you remember, they had a long slender rod you poked in the ground till you found your target and then it supposedly ID'ed it.

I have been using Jim Ott's Periscope and would not consider detecting without it. Last year I dug less than one percent dry holes. With practice, you can exactly pinpoint and with a high percentage identify the target without digging. It is an amazing detecting device.
Anyone know where I can get another one for parts, just in case?
Thanks

Kestrel, when you say ".. identify the target.." I assume you mean to: "tell the conductivity". Not actually identify the target, but more like what we would expect on a tone or scale VID/TID, right? In other words, no different than a probe (a mere extension of the machine/coil), but merely something (like an ice-pick) that can be pushed right to the target in the ground, rather than making a plug or hole first, right?

I came across your post on needing another Periscope. I have one to sell in excellent shape. Let me know if interested. I can take pictures if desired. Thanks
