Not that I haven't been trying. Just turned little over 1,500 coins for the year. 153 nickels. ?# of pull tabs, iffy signals, etc. Have snagged couple of Silver Rosies, rings, two copper rings, a stainless ring, & a $20 Bill eyeballed. And today a clad Kennedy half. How about you guys? Anyone still looking for first piece of Gold?

Yep...Me too...still looking...:sadwalk: You are doing pretty good with that $20 bill!

Up here we did loose quite a bit of the Spring when Winter unexpectedly showed up Jan,Feb,Mar!... I usually do my best gold work in the Fall anyway is what I keep telling myself!

Yup! Still looking for my first gold for 2015. I usually have 3-4 pieces of gold by now.

I'm on vacation next week so I plan to turn this freighting trend around.

On the brighter side my old coin count is much higher than normal.

Thus far this year its been pretty barren, only a Celtic 1/4 stater earlier in the year, last year found a full stater 55BC,George 111 full gold guinea,Quenn Victoria full Sovereign, other finds are on par especially silver hammered coins since using the Deus it seems to like silver hammered coins.

Yeah, A guy generally had at least ONE great gold find by now! A couple hard core gold hunters I stay in touch with up here are all experiencing the same dynamic...The Big Lake came up 2' as well as a lot of the inland lakes, so where we were hunting just a year ago would now be over a guys head!

Parks and totters are slammed by all the noobies to the Sport, a guy is lucky to find a penny etc. Perhaps time to change tactics/strategy? What used to work is not working this year for me anyway...I hate the thought of just really going full Park Pulltab mode...thats a grind hoping for a lucky drop! It works, yes, but takes no skill per se, except being really fast on retrieval and working the numbers...

Well, Brothers, one things for sure, we are all WAY overdue, with this much coil time a guy has to get lucky right? Man, OBN is sure knocking it down this year on the beach/water hunters Forum! I'm gonna hit it hard all weekend like usual...

Well I for one have found gold this year. My first gold in 4 years. Or my first gold ever. 8.9 grams 14k mens wedding band. I average 2300 coins a year and 10 pieces of silver jewelry a year. I don't think there is much gold to be found, or im just really unlucky at finding it. But its a lot of fun trying to find it.

I am zilch in the gold department too.

It isn't going to get any easier as time goes on.

Few people are wearing gold anymore after it passed $1000 per ounce.

Do most you guy's water hunt also or strickly land hunter's ? I would think the water hunting would have the edge on gold. I always wanted to water hunt as I'm about 45 minutes from lake Michigan, But it is such a production with the submersible detector, scoop, wet suit, parking, and a place to change. And parking in Chicago is not cheap. Then again now the water is still too cold,But I guess that is your best chance for consistent gold find's ?

Everyone of my gold coins had been either found on ploughed and rolled or pasture land,i live about 90 miles from the nearest coast so beach detecting is not easy for me.

I would think you would have a higher chance of gold jewellery being found on the beach.

Out of curiosity, where are you ???
I my self live in a smallish town in northern los Angeles county in Caalifornia. As far as gold goes I get maybe 1 piece every other month and coins are getting pretty hard to find. We hae just too many people whom detect. So depending on detecting for extra cash is a bad plan these days.

Hey Harold, regarding your question about dirt gold/jewelry hunters...

Theres a few that hang out here that really knock it down consistently and better than a lot of water hunters, and they post a lot for your education if you want to hunt dirt gold......Southwind, Tabman, and REVIER...you might want to read some of their posts to see a pattern you could try... Theres more than these guys, but these 3 seem to focus on the right location and signals...

Beach gold is not as easy as one might think...every body that can swing a coil is out there on the same areas day after day, and now a days, if somebody loses a ring, all they have to do is wave down the nearest coil swinger and have it quickly recovered..:sadwalk:.

I thought that I was a real slacker this year when it came to finding Gold. I have found three gold rings so far this year. Kept two of them and returned the third one to its owner. I have found about a dozen or so pieces of sterling jewelry (Don't really keep an accurate count) and only two silver dimes. I don't know the total number of coins that I have dug out of the Sand/Dirt but I have over $175.00 in clad not counting the pounds of Lincolns/Zincolns. I am spending as much or more time detecting this year than in the past but my totals are down considerable compared to the last two years.
