Perfect Detecting Vehicle...candidate procurred today!:clapping:

Well, That was a great thread, and I sure looked at each and every vehicle y'all mentioned....FINALLY today, I was Johnny on the spot and just bought a 91 Chevy Prizm!:clapping:

It was not as easy as I thought, finding a good honest car within the stated parameters, either the sellers were damnable liars about condition, or the good vehicles were snapped up in an hour after they were posted, and I even think some of the people didnt even have cars at all, they were just lonely, so they'd post a mythological vehicle on Craigslist hoping to have somebody to talk to..and I DID! I talked and looked at 100 vehicles! I even told one guy if he drove out to my house, and I did'nt buy his car, I'd give him 50 bucks for his trouble! Which I did, after putting it up on jacks and fixing it for him so he could drive it back home!.

Anyway, this am, after reading the Forums, I was the first to call on this 91 Prizm, which is essentially a Toyota Corrola made for Chevy...its only got 109k miles? The interior is immaculate! In fact, I was the first person to EVER smoke in it! :lmfao: New Falken Tires, (with warrantee) breaks, rotors, remote start, two sets of keys, with remote locks, no rust! all service records from day one from the dealer! EVERYTHING works on it!

The bumper stickers are Jesus! It was owned by a little old lady who only drove it to Church! NO KIDDING! I always thought those were an urban legend! 2500 bucks! (looking back, it was a miracle I had 2500 bucks cash on hand in the first place!):cry:

Fits my parameters pretty much...27 city, 37 hwy..completely invisible, no chick or theft magnet...I ALMOST pulled the trigger on a 96 Ford Aspire, (still had a distributor cap!) for the mileage (mid 40's) and ugliness, guy wanted 2250 and was not budging..., nearly got into 50 different other rigs, from Rangers to Prius's but always some issue stopped me..I sure learned a lot about cars, Craigslist, and people in the past 5 months search...I am thinking if I can ever afford it, after all the research, that Scion XA hatchback is the perfect one (Cadman!:please:)...well, I'll drive this damned old thing to Atlanta and back this coming week to see if I got freaked, which has happened often in my time, but maybe just this once I'll catch a break, Lord knows I'm due!!.:please: If any of you see some poor old bald headed dope hiking up I 65 north of Nashville with a detector over his shoulder this coming friday...that would be me...just pick me up and take me to the nearest totlot of sportsfield, and I will start all over on the Perfect Vehicle fund...

:clapping: Your post are always entertaining, good job

Congrats mud! You picked up a nice little car with great gas mileage and low maintenance.

Well, it aint a wagon, or a diesel, so lets see how it goes? I do think I can make some effective "break even" long hauls since I've worked all the paydirt out of my near home vicinity... I'll know by next weekend, if I get home from ATL, alls good..

She looks like a cream puff to me and driven by a church lady is just icing on the cake, looks good to me:clapping: With only 109K miles it isn't even broken in yet. Nice score:thumbup:

I think you did good. By my formula of driving my vehicles to at least 200,000 miles, you should have close to 100,000 low maintenance miles to go on your Prizm. HH jim tn

I like it. All you need to do is get the windows tinted so no one can see in. You dont want your detectors taken. Hope it runs for many years to come.. Maybe the little old lady had it blessed... KEN,, IND.

Nice stealth vehicle, in and out before they even notice you were there....lol

I bought my ex wife a 91 prizm executive program car, she drove it for 5 years while in college/work, never had an issue with it. Little 4 cylinder had a lot of get up and go. Should be a good one.

Looks Real Good. I like the color also. Trunk should have enough room for your detector and accessories with no problem. I think you may have made a real find.

Mud, your post reminded me of a joke I heard awhile ago, " what is the difference between a Chevy pickup and a golf ball "? answer, "you can drive a golf ball two or three hundred yards!" lol
hope your nice find is not one of those!
HH Ed in co.

Typo...its a 2001....much better deal! Although I did look at a 1988 VW Fox wagon that would have been a killer rig!

2010 Honda insight EX. Plenty of room, 46 mpg around town, 52-55 mpg on long trips. I can go further for MD trips and fishing trips. With gas prices what they are, I'm glad I got rid of my 4x4 truck.

A very nice looking car, sounds like it ticks all the boxes, cheap to run and ultra reliable and that is basically all we want from a car

Mud, I bought a new prizm in 1995 and drove it trouble free until 2000 and with 60 thousand miles on it I sold it to my buddies mother for 8 grand. She had it for ten years and 80 thousand more miles, bringing the total miles to 140,000. When she died in 2010 my buddy sold the car to his girlfriend daughter for 2 grand. That was four years ago and I still see the car driving all over my neck of the woods. I asked her mother how many miles were on the car and there are now well over 200,000 miles. If I had kept the car I would have saved a bundle of money. The car looks remarkalbly well for being driven in road salt for twenty years. Those cars are more than capable of a quarter million miles with routine maintenance. Nice looking ride and a great price to boot.

Hey Mud, great detecting vehicle. 200K is no problem with regular oil changes and a quality oil. My detecting vehicle is a 2010 Impala and I have 206K on it with only a few minor problems. Doesn't leak oil or use any. The trunk is big enough for 3 Tesoro's and a sand scoop.
