Percentages

I decided to evaluate my findings since I started MDing last May. What follows are the percentages of each coin type I have found. Do these seem typical of other folks out there in the peanut gallery?

Pennies: 65%
Nickels: 7.5%
Dimes: 18%
Quarters: 9.7%

These do not add up to 100% due to rounding.

Man, I thought I was a numbers guy. You're really into numbers, so here you go:

Pennies 50.25%
Nickels 1.77%
Dimes 26.22%
Quarters 21.56%
Halves .07%
Dollars .11%

Normally I use alot of discrimination when I hunt. That is why I get so few nickels. Your results may vary.

Dave, do you crank-up the discrimination to eliminate zinc pennies? It seems like that may be the case. That would account for the lower penny count but higher dime and quarter count.

Yep. Mark what was the username of the guy who found the peanut butter jar full of oddball stuff? I'm wanted to give it to the guy of the next thread, because they are almost neighbors.

I would suppose a lot of our percentages would be based on the type of area a person would be hunting and how new or old it is. Back when things only cost a few cents as compared to today when things are a lot more expensive (gee do I sound like my dad or what?). Anyway my percentages for last year worked out to be.......

Pennies 70.3%
Nickles 3.7%
Dimes 18.5%
Quarters 7.5%
