Per your question Mr Rob .. Why not start a new post to discuss the features needed and ones that are just frosting on the cake.

Sounded like a good idea. What do I really need to adjust for good results with the V3i ???

These are not frosting, these are important. These would not be considered unimportant concerning performance.

A good accurate G/B is all important, if the G/B is not correct performance will be affected.

Gain, as with any detector. As hot as you can and remain stable like any detector.

Filter, depending on your soil.

Recovery delay depending on the amount of trash.

Tracking speed.

Just take care of these and you will be doing just fine.

I couldn't do without adjustable tones, and the same for 191 notch discrimination.

That's a start. Just use what you need. Except for the analysis screens, I think I use everything. Because I can and they make my V3i a dream to operate.

I have found that I pretty much use the coin and jewelry mode, however I have modified it slightly.
I have completely opened up the discrimination, in other words I accept EVERYTHING from -94 thru +94. With that said I have adjusted tones to 0 from -7 thru -94.
I have also adjusted the tones to a single tone, I CANNOT stand the cacophony in my headphones. threshold is set at 1.... target volume is set at 30.
As far as filters, they are site specific and easily accessed on the live controls as is gain, tracking, and recovery delay. All of these are quickly checked at the site.

Of course when I am at the beach I use the beach mode and tweak it on location.... really not much to do to get hunting with optimum performance.

Heavy use of Tone Control and TX Boost means a lot to me.....places I hunt are sometimes horrible with EMI. (Opens up this "frontier" like magic.) Icing can run deep.

Care to say more?

thanks

People say the V3i is complicated but much of the frosting does not have to be used. Most of the configuration menu can be ignored without affecting performance. You don't have to change colors, screen resolution, number size, screen size, or customize icons. You get the idea. Leave these stock and the V3i looks a lot less complicated.

I can list more. You need to learn which are important for performance first and work with these.

You seem to be missing the point Elton and are still intimidated. If you learn nothing more than how to turn on the detector, ground balance and set sensitivity, you will not only get good results.............. you will be getting excellent results.

Most detectors don't have the luxury of making changes to fine tune the detector to the user and their ground. They are preset to work good for just about everyone and most of them work just fine. Some detectors even come with a preset Ground Balance and still work just fine for most users.........

The V3i is the same with the factory made programs that were made by the pros. Many of us use Hi Pro or C&J with nothing more than a few personal choice changes like how we have the Live menu bar or tone preferences.

The only thing holding you back from getting stellar results instead of just excellent results is the experience of hunting with the V3i.

Glad to! I run really close to stock for a lot of hunting but if I go into a large metropolitan area and hunt say parking strips or areas that have a big nest of overhead, cranking back sensitivities to where they are still ever so slightly still noisy, (after picking best filter and single frequency...if I need to), turn machine into three tone and add TX Boost, I can run with the 10DD at times. If not....the 5.3 can still pick up a silver dime or wheat at 6" to 8". (This is for horrid EMI not just average.) The simplified but "alerting" audio frees up my ears to process and pick signals better. Adjust recovery as needed.
