Peoria Area

Did you happen to know that in the day the Peoria area was a hot bed for illegal gambling. At one point in time there was a stretch on the Illinois River that was larger then Las Vegas in the number of joints. There are still chips from the various places that have been preserved. Just thought I would share. Read the top story about the Shelton Brothers here- http://www.freewebs.com/midwestillegals/illinoisstories.htm

It sounds like politics as usual for Illinois.........

I like your avatar Robbie.

Interesting. Some of the establishments sound familiar in Peoria. Thanks for sharing and HH, Nancy

The shelton brothers were my grandma's uncles.

That's awesome!!! I really like researching about the Shelton brothers. They were more powerful then Al Capone. The chip in the lower left is one of there chips. B&C the B stands for Bernie and the C is for Carl.

My brothers wife's maiden name is Shelton...she's related somehow...interesting.

Well I was talking to Dad and he came clean. He was pulling my leg years ago when he said that we were related to them. Grandma's maiden name was Shelton and there is a chance since her family is from the same area but no proof. Note to self never believe everything your parents tell you haha.
