Pentax Optio W30 Underwater Camera

I decided to go with the Pentax based on Bobbie's suggestion, among others. The Olympus SW cameras have let me down twice and three failures would have been too much to take for this Pirate. So far the pics are good and I'm planning on getting into the water with it soon, just too darn busy lately.
The Pentax is a little lighter and a little more compact, I'm hoping that it is a LOT more waterproof than the Olympus was.

Cheers All,

We have the first generation Optio Wpi 10 which is about 4 years old and that one has taken a real beating both in and out of the water with no leaks or problems. And I have the Optio Wpi 30 which also has been taking a beating........this one was almost daily use for 2 years both in and out of the water and no problems. I know other people have them and there is no reported problems with leakage.

If it leaks, you have an ace in the hole. Nothing is "waterproof" legally. Watch companies had to stop advertising they were waterproof calling them "water resistant" or "pressure proof" and neither can a camera company. Good luck with it should take very good pics.

I just love mine, had it about 2 years now and it gets out on the beach and in the water with me often....I carry it in a waterproof cellphone bag that I bought at a dive shop.....it is just for added protection....I use the video feature alot and It is verrrrry sharp and the audio is clear....I do recommend that you buy a memory card for it of atleast 2 gigabytes or more if you decide to shoot alot of video like I do.....you'll love it!!.....Brian

Did all the reviews and it looks like you made a good choice. I only by Canon but this cameras rattings were too good. Now I have to buy one. Time to turn in some old gold. Thanks bud

bda, I have had my Pentax w30 for over a year now I use it for all my pictures hunting and grand kids. It has a mode for movies of about 2 minutes or so. Here is a pic. I took with it this past weekend while hiking a Fl. State park trail with my grand kids. This was taken with the auto mode, sure if I changed it to flowers and micro it would have came out better. A very versatile camera for the money. I have carried mine in my pocket chest deep in water for hours on end with no problems. Can not wait to see some Blue water shots from Bermuda. HH
