We have decided to stay a week down in Pensacola, and rent a condo at the "SEAHORSE" condo's on Ft. Pickens Rd. Can anyone tell me if metal detecting is allowed on these beaches? I figure seeing that its a hot tourist spot, what do you think the hunting would be down there...and are metal detector's allowed on this beach? Any infromation on this would be very greatfull. Thank you in advance!!:clapping:

Pete,
You can hunt all the beaches except down at the fort it's self, which you have to walk miles to get to since the hurricanes wasted the road away. Casino beach is the center beach at the fishing pier. There have been some good finds made there, and on the interior side of the island, called the "sound side" at "Quiet Water Beach" there are occasional some good finds. There is beach at the end of the road in the direction of Fort Pickens that is used by all black people. I would advise not going there as there are frequent fights and the occasional shooting, open drug use and other creepy things.

While you are here you really should spend a day at the Navel Air Museum on board NAS Pensacola. It is a fascinating museum, especially if you are into airplanes.

If you haven't finalized your vacation plans, consider San Destin. It is to the east of Pensacola. Much nicer. Or Panama City Beach. They make Pensacola look like it was left behind.

Yes, I agree with Toy4runr, Pennsicola has come a long way, but I prefer the Destin / Ft Walton area. Pennsicola did just rebuild its Casino beach area & it looks very nice. I would advise you to take a ride to Ft Walton beach & check it out. Its about 40-45 minutes down the road. Destin is just a little further, 7-8 miles. I think they have better accomadations in Destin, (food, hotels, condos, shopping malls, etc.). You should at least check it out while you are there. HH
