Pennies vs clad percentage

VT Dave brought up something I have been noticing also - the fewer pennies being dug. Over the last several years I have seen my clad count begin to overtake my penny count = percentage wise. Maybe people are not carrying pennies much anymore. Anyone else see this happening ? steve in so az

Now that I have the hang of the ExpII, I basically don't dig pennies... but I'd have to agree there seems to be less of them.

The last 6 weeks or so I've gotten about

120 quarters
120 dimes
90 nickels
maybe about 30 pennies

I get out about 2 hours during the week and something like 4 hours on Saturday mornings; once in a blue moon I can make a Sunday for a couple of hours. Most of the time, I hunt the surf where there's less clad but if I don't catch the right tide, I'll hit the dry sand just for the heck of it. So, all in all, it's not too bad a count considering I don't coin normally shoot :)

Are you absolutely sure it's a penny if the detector says a certain number ? I would be afraid of passing over something good. I only go on sounds so dont know anything about readouts. Steve i nso az

I've dug sooooo many pennies, yes, I'd have to say I'm absolutely sure when I've got one.... Sure the ExpII gives you numbers, but I'm mainly talkin' sound. I continue to dig up hits that I'm sure are trash just to see what they are. I'll have it down soon :)
