Pendant found with odd design....any ideas on this??

fwcrawford

Well-known member
I found this pendant in a soccor field yesterday and was wondering about the design on it.
I believe it is silver, but do not see any markings on it.
Any help on the meaning of the design is much appreciated.
Thanks for looking,
Felix

The side with the horse and interlocking trangles is a valknut (slain warrior). Look it up.

Looks like an ancient coin to me but I can't tell. I superimposed a few notes in writing on one of the photos you posted:

The markings on the horses back are X's. I think it is just adding detail to the image.
Some are worn, but they are completely inside the body of the horse.
The markings at the top have been altered due to the hole.. I'm not sure if the hole was drilled or was there originally.
I appreciate any help you can give me.. you are quite the detective!!
Thanks again,
Felix

It is a Norse Coin...Or replica of one...The horse is a reindeer...Things above the head are antlers...look here!
It is probably white pot metal and a replica, but you never know unless it is tested.

HH,

Thanks for the ID.. it is most likely a replica, but an interesting one at that.
At least I know the origins of the designs.. thanks again,
Felix

Although it's been correctly identified I have to ask why the Captain hit on the Ark first ? It's clear to me the this isn't a Ark at all , it doesn't even resemble a Ark . Seeing I never seen the real Ark and no one has for centuries all I can go on is discriptions I've read . It's very clear by the picture that it is a Viking or Norse sailing ship . I not trying to pick on Captain or anyone here but ID's like this always intrigue me as well as tons of other ID as well . Is this a case of everybody see things differently or am I looking at the same post and seeing something else ? Just Curious ... HH , Woodstock

Well woodstock we were trying to sluth it out together, you should have pointed the discrepancies out earlier, good luck..

It is definately Norse. It is a long boat. I have similar pendants I wear for SCA re-enactment. Some of the objects on the other side might be rune symbols. You can Google those and compare. The horse also has a Celtic "flavor".

The fish symbol under the baot made him leap Christian...
