"I'm a getting me 5 silvers today", said the 'Rat to the Mud as we pulled into the parking lot at O dark...I did not doubt it one bit, since the 'Rat had a 13 silver day streak in Sept, and nailed a pair or silver Washingtons just yesterday. It was pouring rain, but a warm rain, the last warm rain of the year, and the 'Rat ditched work for a full day of plundering, so whats a Mud to do? The Rat has a nose for old water, and work is generally a temporary and unprofitable nuisance, so the Mud was there to tag along and work the deep with his Pro, as the Rat knocked down the shallows with his 'Lab.
Peddlers Point is a well known protuberance in our local MKG lake, its just upstream from Cobblers cove and a bit downstream from Moonshiners Marsh...Rumor has it, all the old timey Peddlers and Tinkers and Jacks-of-all camped there as they plied their trade to the populace in the Summer months, set up tents, hobbled the horses, gambled, fought and drank, ...the Rat was wadered up, the Mud was in his wetsuit, and in we went..Nasty place, deep mud and weeds, tough digging and swinging, lotsa trash...But!.
We were hitting and getting! 'Rat got his 5 silvers and a silver ring to spare, I got 4 silvers and these Peddlers badges! Evidently, the sulfuric acid generated by our local coal fired power plant is not kind on old silver, the Barbers were alright, since they were deeper in the mud, but the Mercs and Rosies were really eat up almost to the point where a fellow couldn't get a date off them... ...We were sure one of us would get some gold, either in coin, or ring, or chain fashion, but it was not to be today....This is the last temperate day for wet work here for us I'm a feared, and we both worked it for Old Glory.
I can say at this moment, the Mud is one tired Puppy, and I know the 'Rat dug twice as much as I did!
