The Captain Joe Byrd Cemetery is the prison cemetery for prisoners at the Texas State Prison located in Huntsville, Texas. The prisoner's call the old cemetery "Peckerwood Hill." This cemetery was established in 1855 and is located on 22 acres about a mile from the prison. As of 2009, there were slightly more than 2,000 grave sites at the cemetery.
