PayPal scam...please read!!

My wife opened an official looking e-mail from PayPal saying our account was being tampered with and asked us to log in so we could investigate further. I remembered reading about scams on this forum and headed her off just in time. One thing I noticed was the little security padlock icon was near the top of the page instead of the bottom right where it usually is. I contacted e-Bay and sure enough, it was a scam...I'd been "phished" and they wanted our log in name and password. Who knows what would have happened or what I would have "bought" if I didn't read about the scam in here. The web site sure was official looking, so beware of ANY e-mails from PayPal or eBay. Contact eBay directly through their auction site just to be sure. It was only an hour before they got back to me. It's better to be safe than broke. Thanks for reading this. Ron.

I got one from Ebay telling me that my email address had been changed and if there was a mistake to log on to the ebay link they furnished, I always look for stuff like that so I reported it as fraud, NEVER CLICK ON ANY LINK FOUND IN STUFF LIKE THIS. Tom

JUST REPORT ANY E MAIL LIKE THAT TO SPOOF@EBAY.COM AND IF ITS PAYPAL THEN SEND IT TO SPOOF@PAYPAL.COM I GET ABOUT 10 OR MORE A YEAR.

Yeah, they drop in here at least that often. Some of them are pretty slick and plausible. Also get fishers trying to trick you out of a password, credit card or bank account number, PINs, etc. The world is full of schmucks that ought to be donated to Al Qaeda for beheading.

Tried to enter a bunch of insults in the spaces they provided but it wouldn't take anything but numbers. So I gave up. Before anyone says I shouldn't have gone to their website, I have excellent computer security and firewall protection. Haven't had an incident ever.

Folks these e-mail are everywhere. I get one almost everyday ( seriously ). The bogus Pay Pal e-mails have slowed , but recently it has been bogus Ebay e-mail wanting sensitive information. I have reported at least 25 to ebay and Pay Pal , but they still keep coming . It is a never ending game hackers play , just get use to it , Ebay or Pay Pal cant stop them all. Best advice is to forward them to spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com , then block the sender and delete it.
HH , David

On the scam email it says "Dear Paypal user" or similar, paypal would contact you by your username or Real Name. eBay applies to this rule too. If in any doubt close your email, open a new window from your internet browser, log DIRECTLY to paypal or eBay and log in, if there's anything they'd like you to know it would appear on your account.

Be REAL careful, scams are known on eBay, Paypal, Bank of America, etc. Just remember that any company will NOT ask you for your username and password, not your credit card number, PIN number or more obviously your USERNAME. NEVER by any means click a link on an email and log-in, that's how they get your account names, credit card numbers, etc.

Notice in this email I received from a "payment" made to my paypal account:

Notice the address is different from the real sender's address. If your email has the ability to view COMPLETE address paths like I have enabled here in hotmail then ENABLE it, its a good feature to put the junk where it belongs to.
