Paying to detect in Australia ?.

Would you pay to go on a property thats rich with nuggets up to 20oz plus .
Before I go on, this is just a sound out for possable future plans.

The place is on private property, its had detectors sweep only about 5% of its area, & they did super well before being kicked off.

My idea is to do a deal with the owner and made a camp & have groups of say up to 30 detecting for a week or two.
There could be a choise of fully looked after or self campers .

All the gold found is kept by who ever finds it.
Its like Steve Herchbach's Moore Creek or the Ganes Creek experiance.

What would be a fair price to ask per person ? as its going to be a bit rough, not like Steves professional set up.
The costing will be subject to the owners charge, got to sort that out yet so need to know what to charge.

The area is so good that even an old gold detector will score.
The owner of this big property is a hard man who will only bend to real $bucks.

Its not in W.A or Qld or N.T.

Well, personally, I have no idea what others over there charge so I have no basis for this thought. But, for me, a normal working stiff here in the states, I would have to take into account the cost of getting all the way over there and back, plus transportation, grub, and other essentials. Adding up all those costs on top of paying to hunt good ground for a week or two, I'm thinking $1000 a week would be about right. If you have 20 to 30 people per week, that's a pretty good chunk for the land owner. However, for the locals that would not be much to charge, in my opinion. I doubt you could come up with a rate that would be fair to both kinds of parties. The locals would fill up all available spots and quickly hunt out all the good spots.
Anyway, something to consider.

It does SOUND good but everyone knows that nugget shooting can be quite an expensive quest and not to mention disapointing.....and forking out more money before you even start detecting does put alot of people off.......However for those that save all year and go on a prospecting holiday I would imagine something like that would suit very well. Coming up with a fee can be a daunting task and alot of considerations need to be taken. The owner obviously wants to make some serious cash but he also needs to take into account that he wants to bring people in and not scare them off with a crazy fee. Do you have access to water? Can you build a fire or is it gas only? Do you have a time limit as to how long you can stay or does that depend on how big your bank account is? Would I pay to have a go? If the price was reasonable and free grog was included I would be there in a snap!
Cheers!

With Ganes Creek at USD2,500.00 per week, I think if the property is good enough I agree USD1,000.00, perhaps even AUS1,000.00, would be a good starting point and should attract people.

Being Australian-based, I'd be a starter for sure at that price.

Thanks for your thoughts ;

I think about a $1000AU per week sounds right, lots to think about for sure, thanks for the advice, as for free beer well maybe not every night

The ground is very good, iv'e seen some nice solid nuggets up to 6ozs size 18 months ago, I should have bought them at gold value then.

Early days yet

Duog Stone's/Coiltec Tours are $3000 australian for 11 days...for food, transport, tent and access to hunt nuggets...generally they will meet you at the airport and return you, my cost from San Diego, various stops in Australia and return have been @ 2500 US dollars, total for each trip was 3500 to 45 hundred bucks. It cost me 1500 plus @ 800 for 7 days in Alaska...
If the land is that rich why would you want to open it up...get it yourself!!!Share with your friends!!!

Fred

Hi Fred,
Thanks for that information, the reason why I can,t just get on it with friends is the owner will need to be tempted by some big $bucks to say yes, the guys a hard man :veryangry: & the area if big enough to last many seasons before it runs down.

Bobby.

If this ground is as good as you say the big question is:

"Why the bloody hell would you want others to detect it?"

Charging a grand a week is plain stupid when gold is at about AUD$900/oz.
Surely you could detect way in excess of that on your own.

The whole idea sounds a tad suspect to me!

...the fact remains you can legitimally peg leases on ground which ensures the property owner/leaseholder has to grant you access.

Again, why give the gold away for a pittance?
