Patterns Where Gold and Silver Chains are Found

From your experience where are the majority of chains found in the dry sand?
Any patterns or tips would be appreciated.

Hi landman, I have only ever found 3 necklaces, 2 under the sea 1 at the top of the beach in the soft sand. The 1 in the sand hand come over the mans head as he jumped down a sand dune. I found it for him. The others had both done the same in the water. Look in places where people could be rolling and jumping about. Dune jumping spots, banks that people roll down, beach volleyball courts etc. most are lost in the sea, but with a name like landman you probabily don't wanna hear that.....
The dry sand finds will have to be soon after they're lost or else they'll go to deep to detect very quickly. Chains are hard to detect without a pendant on them at the best of times, so practice listening to the signal they give off. I hope you find some, good luck :)

Well I found a monster of one up at the edge of the dune grass, high sand spot, nice gentle slope. I figure somebody took it off so as to not lose it in the water. I found another one this year in ankle deep water on a big shallow flat that made for a perfect spot to roughhouse with a football or something. The silver chains I have found have been on sports fields and up in the high sand spots too. I hate working the high sand since its like walking in snow, only hotter, but there sure is some targets up there that get overlooked. I would say as Merlin did, try to think about locations where roughhousing, fighting, etc is going on...I look for beer cans, cigarette butts, anything that says a little about the person is helpful. Early in the am, I look for tracks that are running down to the waters edge for a late night skinny dip, imagine a half drunk man from the nearest bar with a female acquaintance, as he runs for the water, about where is he peeling off his shirt or dropping Trou...you can usually see the one legged hop of this occurring..I can see a big gold chain go flying as he peels off his shirt.
Mud

That sure is good advice from mud there, and what a spectacular chain!! Awesome find dude. I'm going to try the high dunes, I hardly ever hunt there. Good luck landman :)

I know right? Hunting the high sands is really awful! Its such a workout climbing those dunes and working the little hidey holes in the trails for usually not much of anything...I bet I walked 5 miles this am from 4 to 9 working that damned sand at five different beaches for about a dollars worth of loot! So I guess it is a thinking game more than anything...a fellow has to find those certain night spots, near the road or parking, a little down stream of the main swimming area for some privacy etc. seems to be good. And then to hit those chain signals! Which as we know are not very good at any appreciable depth...I drive myself nuts going after those chains...fresh or shallow drops is what I'm looking for. Generally scratchy soft foil signals, or the tiny little pip of the clasp is all we get...I hope to find another in the water this year where some half drunk randy young gentleman wearing a heavy link stands on his head or something...I hate that high sand work! It was a very nice big full moon this am though...sort of nice..and theres a whole brigade of other detectorists hitting the towel line constantly, so whats a guy to do?
Mud

Dry sand..... chains will be where you find them. In the water.... thats the challenge. The longer they are there they tend to move like the lighter floaters toward the lower areas and at the surf line in the classifed sand. But recent drops.... again where you find them out there.

Dew

your killing me mud---look for the one legged hop marks in the sand.. lol lol lol .... i only recall finding 1 silver at the ocean ,very thin but had a small pendent on it which im sure helped signal wise... the other one was in a lake in the swimming area that had been drawn down exposing the entire swimming area and just like mud said it was just a little chirp that the clasp gave off and if i hadnt been standing at the right angle i never would have seen those two tiny little hair strand pieces of the clasp sparkle...but i did and when i pull on those two little hairs much to my suprise a 14k gold chain came out of the sand..... still comes down to luck no matter how you slice it.... bootyhound...
