Good day all, I am getting back into detecting after years off as an obsessed fly fisherman. I used to own a great Whites DFX that I traded for a Shadow X5 (I wanted to try out anther brand) and also own a Classic SL (ID) that is on its way out due to letting friends borrow it ;-). I tried a Fisher F22 the other day and it sure cut through a yard full of coal coke and iron to find wheaties and a few silver dimes along with buttons. I liked the Fisher so much that I did some research and saw the Patriot is an F70. I'm almost sold on it but then started watching some videos and it seems like it's all chatter blips and falsing is that correct? The F-22 didn't seem so bad. I have always used White's metal detectors which were relatively stable and also the X5 is pretty stable. Do you think the Patriot would be a good fit or another detector? The price is range$400 or less. I really like the F-22 but probably one of my favorite detectors is my buddies idx Pro which they no longer make. Thanks a bunch.
 
Of course the final decision will ultimately be yours, sounds like you are considering a few options. I have the Patriot and it is great. I have heard the comments about it being "chatty". Most any new machine will have a learning curve. I wouldn't say it is chatty. The machine runs hot for sure. But it has so many options to set it up so it runs quiet. I have had two Bounty Hunters, two Garretts, and the Teknetics Patriot. For me, the Patriot had a steeper learning curve than the AT Pro. But after taking the time to learn the Patriot it is definitely my go to machine. I find it goes deep, recover speed is outstanding, and target separation is excellent. The Patriot is my land machine and I only use the AT Pro for water hunting. Both are great machines but I must admit the Patriot is much better balanced and lighter. I don't feel I have given up anything with the Patriot. Recently I hunted wet salt water sand at the beach. Ground balanced, set the sensitivity and threshold and it ran totally quiet. I don't mean to challenge anyone who says it is too chatty, but my experience has been, once you take the time to learn it and play with it it runs just as quiet as any machine I've ever used. Personally, I am finding more targets and deeper targets than ever before. Just my humble opinion from a very satisfied user.
 
Thanks Dirt Jockey, that helps a bunch! I don't mind the learning curve, having been a dFX owner so it looks like the Patriot is what I'm looking for. It sure is wild having so many options at a price that is doable.
 
I appreciate you taking the time to share all of the info as well it means a lot. At the moment I'm working part time after teaching for the day and I have to pay off some credit cards for trips that we took but I also have some housecleaning lined up and I'll stash away some money for new detector :). Is really nice being back and the friendliness of the group doesn't seem to have changed a bit since I've been gone great group of people I've interacted with so far and you're one of them thanks.
