patch cord for headphones

Hey guys,
I made these patch cords for my detectors to keep the phone cords from hanging up in the brush when hunting around old home sites and such. I got the stereo jacks from radio shack and used some communication cable for the hook up.
It is attached with double sided velcro and is easily removed when not needed.
It works great and keeps the cable out of harms way and also reduces the movement of the headphone cable since it located closer to the pivot point of the detector. Plus it helps when the headphone cable is just a wee bit too short.
Thought someone may be interested in this idea.
Thanks for looking,
Felix

Nice simple solution.

Thanks for the tip, I tried it on both mine , an Ace 250 and a Bounty Hunter Lone Star. The only thing to remember is use STEREO plugs or it wont work. Now, if I can only find a way to put a wireless headset on them I would be in heaven

My buddy has a new DFX 300. The headphone jack now has plastic threads. The first week he used it, the threads stripped on the jack from the stress / side load on the jack when used with a straight headphone jack. I made a similar adapter for him so he could avoid having to replace another plastic jack in his Whites machine.

:pulltab:great idea...i made mine today and it ran me about $6.00. i went to a local music store and bought a 3ft. double male 1/4 extension and female adapter from a electrical parts store and just spliced the female adapter to the wire extension.my only mistake was not measuring the exact length on my 250,so i just have a couple inches extra.just be sure to solder and insulate the spliced parts completly.

Had a call from a friend with an Xterra. He didn't like the narrow stand and the headphone plug on the machine's control box. Asked for me to help with some improvements.

I made this for him.

All metal.
Black powder paint coated.
Wider stand.
Headphone extension cable to the back of the machine to get the headphone cable out of your way.

Hi,
I posted this message on the board in Feb this year about a mod I did to my XT 50 to get the headphone cord out of the way

Made a couple of modifications to the X-Terra 50 today, I found I kept getting tangled with the headphone cable, so I made a 90 deg adapter plug for the headphone socket, then made up & fitted a extension cable that I fed down between the handle & foam grip & into the top part of the armrest shaft, feeding the cable through the shaft to the end.
I gently pulled out the end cap, drilled & fitted a headphone socket, now when I put the detector down beside me I don't have the cable laying across where I am digging.

Hope this helps, works great for me
