Past few day's goodies...

Well, my schedule has just been hectic this past week. I had to go in to work early three days in a row, and I didn't have time to get much in the way of chores done, much less time to go hunting. So, when I did get some free time, and started finding some good stuff, I didn't have enough free time to actually post. So, here's the past three day's worth of goodies.

Thursday saw me stopping off at a park that I was pounding last summer. Obviously, I didn't search everywhere, as I pulled this up from 6" down:

A nice, early-date Merc! It's seen some use, but isn't worn nearly smooth like most early Merc's are.

Friday saw me back at the same park. I originally headed off to the spot where I pulled the Merc., and started running a tight grid pattern. Nothing. And I mean nothing! I went back to my van, put on the 8" coil, and started running a grid pattern under a tree that I've pulled several Wheat's from, as well as a Barber Quarter last year. Well, I wasn't disappointed this time either. I got a nice, soft, 4-way High Coin hit that indicated 5" down. I figured it was another Wheat, but was nice and surprised with this popped out:

Two days, and two silvers. Nice.

Saturday, I stopped off at a nearby school that I've worked for several years now. The school yard is huge! I started running a pattern in the infield of a softball diamond that I've worked earlier this year, only this time I was running at 90 degrees to my original pattern. I was using the 8" coil this time, with my Sens. around 4, trying to listen between the iron hits for any repeatable coin signals. Sure enough, within a few minutes, I pulled up a Wheat. I continued on with my pattern, and about 15 minutes later, near a chain-link fence that formed part of the backstop, from an indicated 4" down, I pulled out this:

Yes! My second silver quarter this year, and the sixth silver quarter to come from this site.

I did get out for a bit today, but didn't find much, just a 1925 Wheat practically on top of the ground. Hopefully, I'll be able to find some goodies tomorrow, weather permitting.

Note: the picture(s) might not show up due to bandwidth limitations. If the picture(s) are not there, check back at a later time.

Thanks for the pix...I've also found coins literally on top of the ground. A Barber Dime a few years ago back. They tore up a parking lot in the old section of town. It "counts" because I had the metal detector in my hand. Was at a site in Richmond Va. found a Wheat that must have been a drop by another detectorist. It still had dirt crustations on it. This site must have been hit hard over the years. Got to tip my hat to somebody, the only other coin of interest was a hard earned 1917 Wheat was found at least 7-9 in. down.

Allen, Good finds,I'm on a tight schedule myself and have to make some time for coin hunting. You ever try Belle Isle? Ron

But I've drooled over some of the goodies coming out of there.

Allen, I'm from Oxford and one of the guys I hunt with wanted to make a run down to Belle Isle. What CZ do you use the most? Ron

Do you think anyone's ever gone in the water looking for older coins around Belle Isle? I searched an old swimming hole near here a month ago, and got a lot of goodies. I want to go back this summer when the water's gone down some, if it does.

Allen, I got a CZ5 a couple of weeks ago and haven't had time to use it in a park.I'm at a point that I would like to sell most of the detectors I have and concentrate on searching instead of buying and selling metal detectors. I have never heard of anyone searching in the water around Belle Isle, which could have a lot of potential. Ron

Jack, I already bought one of your detectors, that was the start of my buying spree.I think at this point I have owned every detector Fisher has produced. Ron
