Sunday afternoon I headed out to a park. We had received some light snow over the weekend, and the ground was partially frozen. I went into a wooded area that I hadn't been to yet. As I was wandering around in the woods, I found an OLD rosebush. Within a few feet of it, I pulled up a Wheat, a '46. I've been back there again once, but haven't found anything yet.
Yesterday, I went to a different park that I've been going to off-and-on since last fall. I started searching an area that I had previously searched. Well, you don't always get it all on the first time. I pulled up another Wheat, another '46, and a little something that I thought was the back to a locket. I could clearly see a maker's mark and "10K Gold Filled". On the inside I could see "10K Gold Filled Sterling", plus a bunch of other stuff that was covered with dirt. After a quick soaking at home, I can see on the back, the same legend, plus "Gruen". On the inside, I can make out "Cased and Timed in U.S.A., by Gruen Watch Co., Star Watch Case Co., 10K Gold Filled ON STERLING, 047999, 290-439".
I did a little research on Gruen Watch Co., and had a most interesting read.
