thanks.. ya it's an odd find... i cant find any info on maker so i posted same pic on uk forum in hopes that someone over there can tell me more... i suspect it's from 1850s or older and was either just a compass or something they call a sundial compass but waiting for confirmation. ...

you are right flinthunter, a guy over on the uk forum posted one almost identical with this info: unfortunately i had to take a screen shot as i couldn't figure out how to post otherwise... looks like its from 1st half of the 1700s. .. [attachment 338294 IMG_20161125_1659107582.jpg][attachment 338295 IMG_20161125_164736746_HDR1.jpg] im super thrilled of the age of this relic as must have been used by the original land surveyor's. ..
