Parks

Most of the county parks near me are made around a man made lake, and are hundreds of acres of farm fields (leased to farmers), woods and cut grass.
When they dammed up the creek to make the lake/park, all of the old stone homes and old barns were taken over by the state (eminent domain) and destroyed.
Old maps will show the approximate location of the now gone homes. The many tell-tale signs of an old homestead give me an eerie feeling when I spot them. At one time they were working farms with generations of families living, working, surviving, playing and loving, now all grown over. Most of the time the foundations are not visible but some of the stone wells are.
This kind of detecting is my favorite. Doing the homework by studying the old maps, getting the long and lat...... then the trec begins. You know when your there, and you know there's treasures, let the hunt begin.

Sounds like a blast !! What time do we start?

Now there's enthusiasm McDave. I like it. Wish my detecting buddy had more interest in the hobby.

I'm with McDave what a dream hunt! Researching (to me) is almost as exciting as the hunt in the field...but there is nothing like my coil touching down on mother earth in search of the treasure. I'll pack plenty of food and drink. When does the bus leave? lol

I'm with ya earthly. It would be nice to take a month and just detect preplanned old sites, day in and day out. Oh well, not in a position to do that, yet.

I'm game I'll be right over ,got a new to me detector to try out LOL, you lucky dog virgin territory waitin for ya

I see that key word "YET" lol Best of luck to you when you do start hunting this ghost town. - Jim
