I tried a parking lot downtown yesterday that I hoped would be a good site. It has one of those honor boxes where you are supposed to insert money for the spot you are parked in. I expected to find a lot around the box but only came up with thirty cents. Working around only the edge of one corner, which took several hours, I came up with $1.35 in clad, 6 copper pennies, and 30 zincs for a total of $1.61. Other interesting items included a key, a decorative heartshaped button a, a broken spring clasp probably used for keys, some type of badge or pin and a whatzit. This last is about 3/4" at the widest point on the bottom and about the same in height with a small wire loop at the top. On the bottom there is a hole as if it was meant to be attached to something. It's metal and looks like half of a tiny football. Also I found a girls ring. it appears to be silver and has a small black heart shaped stone. There is engraving on the inside but even with a 15x loupe I can't make out what it says. There is also what appears to be a copyright symbol engraved in it so I suspect it is some type of movie premium or something. And of course the usual amount of junk. The clad and copper pennies cleaned up well enough but the zincs are indeciperable as to dates.
I've been out 5 times this week with the V and never to the same place twice. I've hardly scratched the surface on any of them. I have to take today off because I'm pooped. I know some say bouncing around from place to place is non-constructive but I have to keep it interesting for myself by trying out new locations. It is definitly true that there are more locations close to where one lives than can ever be hunted. I am always keeping an eye out for new spots that I feel I just have to try and so will always have plenty of places to rotate. Places where people are always at and hopefully replenishing. They are certainly replenishing the junk if nothing else.
