What a day at the park! This park is probably one of my favorite places to hunt. It takes a little over an hour to get to, so I don't hunt it as much as I would like, but over the years, my son and I have pounded this park over and over and It just keeps on giving! This park is located in a real small city and what makes it so nice is the people that I have meet while detecting, very nice from the grounds keeper to the park committee, to the baseball coaches to just your ordinary park goers. Never have I had the feeling of someone not wanting us to be there, and to me that is really nice to just be able to go out and enjoy yourself.
So anyway I decided to give the park a try yesterday, wanted my son to go with me but he is in college and couldn't make it. I called my Dad up, he also loves to detect, but he had some things to take care of, so I was flying solo for the day. This park has several shelter houses and around them are pretty heavily filled with trash. I already had my small 5 inch Sunray coil on, so I decided to start off with it and work around the middle shelter house. My son and I have worked this area before but not as much as the other two shelter houses. This one we thought was not as old as the other two.
After about 45 minutes and chasing a couple nails and finding some memorials, I hit my first silver of the day! A 1942 Merc! Good start I thought!
I stayed with the small coil for awhile longer, but I was thinking about putting on my pro coil and trying out some areas farther away from the shelter house. I wanted to do this the last time here but never got to. I'm glad I made the decision! After changing coils and taking a small water break, I got back to hunting. On about the third swing with my pro coil I hit my second silver, a 1951 Rosie! It was pretty deep and I know I had been over this spot with my small coil, that kinda stuff just makes you smile!
Wasn't long after that I heard that sweet sound again! 1964 quarter![attachment 244311 20120917_113204-1.jpg]
I love seeing that bright big silver edge!
I made my way out a little farther away from the shelter house. There was a huge tree i was working out to, it was just kinda out in the middle of the part of the park I was in. About half way between the shelter house and the tree, I heard that kinda of sound that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up! DEEP SILVER! Oh yea and it was good! Sometimes I just circle around and analyze the signal and I feel like a kid on Christmas morning! What popped out of the ground next was a 1899 Barber! It was really funny because my son and I had found silver on this side of the park, but it was mostly all rosies and a couple of late 50's and early 60's quarters. After filling in and replacing my plug, a few more steps and I was rewarded with this beautiful 1918 Merc!

I had been hunting for around three hours and I checked my phone and I had about 45 minutes until I had to leave to pick up my little girl from school. I could only remember of one other day where I had a five silver day and that was four coins and a neat little silver ring. To me finding one or two silver coins are a good day so I was having a great day! I ended up working my way back to the car finding some more memorials and some clad quarters, when I got another good hit. I couldn't believe it.... another silver 64 Rosie! Six silver coins and whats unbelievable, not one Wheatie! What a great day! Only thing that would have made it better was to have my son or my father there to enjoy it with me! I love this hobby! Take care my friends, hope you enjoy the pics! [attachment 244320 20120917_161834-1.jpg]
