Park Hunting - Using 50 Conductive Mode

doc1964

New member
Got up early and braved the cold wind this morning to hit a few old parks that we've pounded in the past - then pounded them some more!

I decided to run all day in 50 conductive sounds, Andy's Old Coin pattern, basically all the same settings I ran on my E-trac. I had a blast, I had almost forgotten how enjoyable this mode was since I started hunting in combined. My rational was hitting the park with a different "perspective" and maybe having some targets jump out at me that did not in the 5 tone conductive mode. It worked! I ended up with10 wheats, 4 Injuns (1888, 1896, 1897 and 1899), a 1939 Merc, a no-date SLQ, and best of all - an 1864 Civil War store card from "A. Button - War Claim Attourney - General Collecting - Insurance Agent - Lyons, Mich. It was a fun day - I'll be posting up a vid. on YT shortly.

Awesome hunt! I like silver coins..... but I love IH pennies! And those you found are beautiful, as is the store card! Nicely done!

Like you, I spend a lot of time using the Combined Audio. But in defense of that mode, I spend a lot of time hunting "wide open" areas, such as farmsteads and home sites. When I am hunting areas with a fair amount of modern trash, I prefer to hear all 50 tones CO, and let my ears act as the initial filtering stage. And not to beat an old horse to death...... that is the beauty of the CTX 3030...... tweak and twist it to suit the site and your style. Looks like you did that just fine! HH Randy

I agree Randy - there is a ton of modern trash in these parks and it did stop me in my tracks hearing those sweet 50 tone sounds - - - then I double checked the signals in combined to make sure - love that "last" option to quickly switch between the modes. HH

doc,

You say; "then I double checked the signals in combined to make sure"

How does changing to a different Tone ID Profile alone help in "check(ing) the signal?"

I sometimes switch to a different Pattern but it is to access different Mode settings such as different Target Separation or Response Tone or Pinpoint type. Not just to get more limited tones.

I may be missing some nuance here. Once a tone interests me; I then rely on screen information more that some different tonal information that a change in Tone ID Profile could provide.

If you are switching to a pattern where there are other things changed along with the Tone Profile I can see the possibility of a benefit.

What are you hearing when going to Combined that "checks" the signal?

Thanks

I'm flipping between a combined (ferrous-coin) mode and a 50 tone (high trash) mode. Sorry I wasn't clear about the different target separation - that's key.

doc,

"I'm flipping between a combined (ferrous-coin) mode and a 50 tone (high trash) mode. Sorry I wasn't clear about the different target separation - that's key"

Interesting suggestion;

I am going to set up my next run with two open patterns with the only difference being whether I am in High Trash or Ferrous Coin.

I will try signals both ways to try to determine the "checking" advantage of the switch. I have done this somewhat informally before but beleive it merits further invesigation.

IMO the Tonal profile is just a matter of prefernce on how one wants to be alerted to a possible target.
